Base Type
It is essential to have a solid, level area for your building installation. If your base is not solid or level this will effect how well we can install your building.
A Combi Base will correct uneven or non solid ground using a Tanalised Leveling Frame and Plastic Eco Tiles where needed. (Corrects gradient of up to 6 inches, please contact us if your gradient is steeper.)
If your base is solid and level you may consider adding a set of Tanalised Bearers for added floor protection.
A good foundation is essential not only for installation but for the longevity of your building. Please contact your local branch.

It is the customers responsibility to make sure there is adequate access to the property for the size of the panels being delivered to fit through. If you require dimensions of panels please contact our office. We recommend checking this especially on orders 8x6 and over. If panels will not fit through access then the product will be delivered kerbside.
Aborted Deliveries & Installations
A redelivery / revisit charge of £50 will be applied if a delivery is aborted due to the following reasons
- Unable to gain access to property despite customer being contacted with date and time of delivery.
- Unable to park within 50 yards of property without prior notice
- Unable to install product because panels will not fit through access.
- Path to the desired installation location is not clear and obstacle free.
- Location of desired installation is not clear.
- Foundation for installation is not solid & level (please see 'What Foundation Do I Need FAQ's)
Installations usually take between 30 minuets to 4 hours depending on the size of the garden building.
Foundation Requirements
It is essential to have a solid, level foundation for your garden building to be installed on.
If you are preparing you own foundation we recommend Flags, Concrete Base or Solid Timber Frame.
If the foundation is not solid and level this will effect your guarantee and warranty and can effect your installation.
On arrival our install team will check the level and quality of the area for installation. If the area is not solid or level you will be offered the following options:
- We can install a Combi Base to properly prepare the area. This is an additional price.
- We can leave the shed stacked on your premises and revisit to install once your base is corrected. There is a charge of £50 for any revisit that is due to an inadequate base.
- We can install your shed on the area provided if possible (subject to the installers judgement) however this will void the warranty of the areas effected.
Combi Base or Bearers?
We recommend a Combi Base if your ground is:
- Not solid (ie grass, soil, loose stone etc).
- Uneven, even if solid (ie on a gradient, not level, higher in some spots lower in others).
- Area is prone to standing water or poor drainage.
We recommend Bearers for ground that is solid and level for added floor protection and ventilation.
Please note Bearers do not correct an uneven base.
All our Garden Buildings are Treated Free!
Types Of Treatment
Tanalised - Tanalised® timber is timber which has been pressure treated to help preserve the wood. When preservative protection is applied via a pressure method, the treatment gets right into the centre of the wood. This is unlike treatment applied with a brush, which only covers and protects the wood's surface.
Tanalised wood not only provides longevity and excellent protection from the environment, but is also a low maintenance, environmentally friendly, cost-effective option too.
All Tanalised timber comes with a 10 year anti rot guarantee. Any Timber in our product that is subject to rot will be replaced free of charge. Please note replacement does not include installation.
Dip Treated, Red Cedar Colour
Dip Treatment is a water based treatment process that provides external protection to timber. It is a cheaper alternative to Tanalised timber but still offers good initial protection against the elements.
How Often Should You Treat Your Garden Building?
Timber is an organic product and benefits from regular treatment to protect against the elements. We recommend Treating Tanalised timber every 2 years and Dip Treated every year.
Although Tanalised timber is protected against Rot and Decay there are still many benefits of treating the timber at least every 2 years including maintaining the look of the product, reducing shrinkage and expansion during seasonal changes and limiting water ingress.
How To Look After Your Garden Building.
There are a few essential things to do to maintain the appearance and extend the life of your new garden building.
- We recommend that your product should be coated with preservative / Quality water repellent 6 months to 1 year after installation and depending on the product used, treated at regular intervals thereafter.
If your product has been tanalised- The timber has been pressure treated, to give extra protection
against rot, however we still recommend the shed is coated within 2 years with a quality water
repellent to prevent water ingress. - Keep the area around your shed clear of soil, foliage or other items that may prevent/ restrict airflow for drying of timber.
- Oil the ironmongery (hinges, locks etc) occasionally.
- Do not paint the roofing felt, but keep clear of washing lines, ivy growth or tree branches which may rub the roofing felt and wear it out.
- In the unlikely event that mould should appear on the inside of your shed, wipe down the affected area with a solution of warm water, bleach and disinfectant. Please note mould is due to condensation which can naturally occur in a garden building in different environments.
Covered By Guarantee & Warranty
- Roofing felt is guaranteed for 12 months from installation date with the exception of damage which has resulted from extreme weather (storm damage) or from foliage (ivy growth, tree branches) or washing lines.
- Ironmongery is guaranteed for 12 months from installation date.
- Dip Treated Timber is guaranteed against rot for 12 months from installation date.
- Tanalised Timber comes with a 10 Year Guarantee that offers protection against general timber rot and decay. The guarantee does not cover the product against timber shrinkage, splits or warping which may occur naturally over time. Atlas sheds will replace the damaged / affected individual parts (individual timber boards and support timbers) and will not replace the whole shed unless deemed necessary.
- Timber movement and water ingress are not covered by the guarantee. (See water ingress and shrinkage sections below)
The guarantee will be deemed invalid if:
- Atlas did not install your product.
- The base upon which the product is assembled is not suitable. All buildings should be assembled on a solid and level base constructed from suitable material.
- The product was installed less than 6’’ away from any walls, fences or plants.
- The product has been customised or adapted in any way.
- At any point after assembly the building has been in contact with any soil trees plants or exterior walls which could allow moisture to penetrate the timber.
- Any timber has been cut, pierced or drilled with out a subsequent application of approved cut-end treatment.
- Damage has been caused maliciously.
- The eventual claimant was not the original purchaser of the product.
Leakage & Water Ingress
If there is water showing on the interior of your shed it may be caused by leakage, water ingress or condensation.
Leakage: Leakage is caused when water enters your building by a hole or crack in your cladding or a perforation in your roofing felt. This is covered by your guarantee and can be fixed with filler, new boards installed or a refelt. We will determine which solution is best once we receive the relevant information.
Water Ingress: If you have noticed damp patches not caused by any holes or cracks this will be due to Water Ingress. Wood is a natural product and in wet weather absorbs water through capillaries. Because your shed has been through a wet treatment process it has already absorbed a quantity of liquid and requires time to dry out. This can take up to 6 months especially in the wetter seasons. During this time excess water may show inside your shed. This does not cause rot (covered by your guarantee) as your building has been treated with a preservative. This does not effect the quality of your shed and is not covered by your guarantee.
Condensation: Condensation is a result of weather conditions outside your shed and can result in damp patches inside your shed. This is not associated with the quality of the product and is not covered by your guarantee. You may want to leave the door open on your shed during dryer days to air it out.
Shrinkage and Expansion
Timber shrinkage is natural and unpredictable during climatic changes. Board shrinkage occurs when your cladding has not absorbed enough water, usually in the summer months. The timber will also expand during periods of damp or wet weather. The grades of timber we manufacture with are 12mm & 16mm Soft-wood tongue & groove and are more prone to movement than hardwoods such as cedar wood that come at a much higher cost. We advise spraying your shed with a hose pipe during periods of hot weather. As they absorb moisture the boards will expand again. A clear mastic can seal the gap but also allow for movement when the timber expands back into the gaps. Timber shrinkage/ expansion is an organically occurring process and not due to substandard manufacturing therefore is not covered by your warranty.
